I have a thinkpad x301 type 2777.

ubuntu runs fine on it.

I installed a snapshot of openbsd 3.8 yesterday and it's working well too. sleep (zzz) works once you put apmd_flags="" in rc.conf.local. wireless works with the iwn driver and firmware package. sound works. x works. wired network works. brightness controls work.

I had to change the sata thing in the bios to compatibility mode instead of ahci. I also had some weird stuff with packages/ports and had to do ln -s libX11.so.14.0 libX11.so.13.0 in /usr/X11R6/lib and ln -s awk nawk in /usr/bin to fix it. these are probably just issues with the snapshot that I got, but I couldn't find much about the specific errors anywhere.

the worst thing beside not having flash is the touchpad. I don't know how to get edge scrolling to work or turn off tap-to-click (this is actually the only reason I had to edit this post, because I accidentally tapped and created the thread).

im running a 4.8 snapshot on my x201 fulltime (except a windows xp partition so i can play street fighter 3: 3rd strike online). I have pretty much the same shit as you except, ahci works perfect. I actually have to change it to compat mode when i reboot into windows but then have to have ahci in openbsd (i could do compat in both if i changed my fstab in openbsd though - just havent).

the ports/packages issues are definitely just snapshot issues.

im lovin it.

also, i disabled my touchpad and use the touchstick (nub, whatever) only. touch pads under X always are terrible for me. if you had it working fine in ubuntu, then its obviously just some settings.

I can't stand the trackpoint nub. as much as tap-to-click annoys me, the nub is worse. I think to have access to all this stuff you need the synaptics driver, which doesn't work on openbsd.

I'm really inaccurate with it for some reason. like way more so than the touchpad. I used to be the opposite, but I came around.

Actually, the trackpoint is less accurate as the touchpad, as a pointing device the touchpad is better.
The reason that the trackpoint owns anyway is that you can use it without moving your hands from the keyboard.

i don't know--the trackpoint is both fast and accurate for me. i can move across the entire screen and stop on the exact pixel i want. it would take me ten times as long on a touchpad, thumbing around it.

According to:

Four studies are cited ...
These are averages of course ... YMMV ...

i suspect the studies also don't account for accumulation of "trackpoint" capital

I've been running debian wheezy (testing).

- wifi needs firmware (of course)
- wpa is pretty easy in /etc/network/interfaces (just specify wpa-ssid and wpa-psk)
- brightness keys work
- suspend works once I install acpi-support (I hate linux)
- to get volume up/down keys to work I have to bind them to amixer commands with xbindkeys
- same with play/pause/stop/prev/next audio buttons

I think all those keys would work in a full desktop environment. they all generate events like XF86AudioNext and XF86VolDown.

I also use dwm and mpd ... but I edited my config.h to have Meta1+a/o/e/u/i acting as volume adjusters. The Fn+F10/11/12 that my eeePC has set up for volume control is just too much for my hands to do all the time.
