* has the control key to the left of "a" on the home row

preferred:

I was going to suggest the Happy Hacking Keyboard. :)

I used to use the Lite2 version, which has arrow keys. It suddenly stopped working, though.

because i think it is more widely supported. i guess usb can be okay (if i can use an adapter for ps/2-only systems). hot-plug would be nice.

Having the CTRL key on the HomeRow is pretty fuckin' impossible on wintel. Would it be possible for you to remap Caps lock? Also, I like my Dinovo Edge. It's wireless BT though.

That looks great Lucas, I looked at the thinkpad stand-alone keyboard a few months ago, and considered buying it. I didn't mainbly because a) The touchpad, b) Price and c) Some not-so-positive reviews.

This seems to be a good improvement ... I might buy that one ... The M13 has the downside of having only two trackpoint buttons and they often have no Windows keys (I use "windows keys" often for my WM ... At some point in the past I even had little daemon stickers I put over the Windows logo :D)

so i won a black ps2 hhbk lite2 for $29.33 shipped.

from geekhack.com, i've learned that ps/2 is good because it can handle more simultaneous characters than usb. so use ps/2 if you can, but if you only have usb or you need to hot plug, then use a ps/2 to usb adapter.

btw, there are always quite a few of these listed by the same seller on ebay for $10 each (see here). if you search the name instead of the acronym, then you don't get the good deals (see here).

i'll report back on product quality and how well packed it was. they shipped quickly.

I recently encountered the issue while playing Dragon Age: Origins.

You can press the TAB key to highlight stuff (Items in the ground etc.), and use the WSAD combination to move.

If you hold TAB for highlight, press W for forward, and then Q for strafe left, then my PC goes *beep* and the Q key does nothing ....
Strangely, the E key for strafe left does work ...

I liked it but honestly the noise was too annoying to do any serious work on it. and I still like the short travel of laptop keyboards. it makes me feel like I can type faster.

speaking of keyboards, I might buy a MobilePro again because they are cool. I really have no idea what good use I'd have for it, but I was looking at them on eBay and couldn't help myself. similarly, the IBM z50 has a pretty awesome keyboard and is similar to the MobilePro so I was looking at those too. I blame this thread.

I stand by this statement: The Sun Type 5 (not 5c) is the greatest keyboard ever.

If only the Type 7 maintained the correct Control positioning (and Esc, and grave, et al), then I'd have a worthy USB keyboard.

And on Sun machines, that power key on the kbd is an actual power key. It uses this weird 8-pin mini-DIN and RS/232 protocol to communicate so it has similar capabilities to a full terminal.

If I get one, an Arduino Nano would probably work well for a Sun->PS/2(or USB, I guess) converter. Thing requires two separate +5V sources (pins 3 & 8) so it can also power a Sun mouse from the keyboard rather than the workstation.

Idk, I think they're cool as hell.

I somehow only have one soldering burn/hole on mine. I really need to set up a separate workspace for soldering/other projects. right now I just use the same desk that has like my monitor and stuff on it and I end up making a huge mess and then just never using the desk for actually working at. I did figure out today that the new keyboard fits perfectly over my macbook's keyboard without pressing down any keys so I used it for working from the couch today lol.
