:/ sorry, i didn't mean to be rude. i just remember telling you numerous times that you should take advantage of the fact that you have a hatchback and love bass by tossing a 12" sub in the back.

> I want to build my own setup.

i don't think it's usually possible to buy a "kit." i was indeed talking about buys parts individually and installing them yourself. you could build your own box, though.

i meant that you will need these components:
* a head unit
* two or four coaxial speakers (i'd recommend against component speakers)
* a subwoofer (i'd recommend a 12" based on your taste in music)
* an amplifier for the subwoofer (this needs to be mono or bridgeable)
* a box to house the subwoofer (it must fit perfectly; you can choose either ported or sealed)

i'm saying that it will be difficult to buy all of those components for $250 on the new market.

here's an example of a respectable sub setup:
infinity reference 1260w
infinity 1300a
but those two things alone cost $224.

so you could buy:
(a) used to save money -- possibly sacrificing a warranty or product quality
(b) an 8" or 10" sub (they are cheaper and need a less expensive amp for the same loudness) -- sacrificing deeper bass
(c) a quieter setup (less wattage will save you money on the sub and a lot on the amp)
(d) a cheaper brand (but typically you get what you pay for)

here's a setup using a cheaper brand:
kenwood kac-8104d
kenwood kfc-w3011
those two things are $182.95.

you can get respectable pairs of (new) coaxial speakers for $40 and a decent (new) head unit for $100. but bass is expensive.

my cars a hatchback and i think my 10'' sounds really good in it. though i mostly only listen to rock, punk and metal.

i guess the thing i like the best about it is i can have the bass up fairly high, have it sound really deep and loud in my car but barely hear it when you step out of it.

Thanks for the examples. I have lots of researching to do!

I found out today my brother is putting a $2,300 system into his ghetto mobile. That's on top of his hydraulics, chrome-plating, golden, 100-spoke rims, and naked woman emblem. :D

He's a city worker now. He collects from all the parking meters downtown and plays WOW while being the dude who sits in the little booth at the entrance of the parking garage. Apparently he makes really good money doing this. :P

Gatz...I'm sorry. I just don't think I could afford you.
